About Department :
The department of Physiology was established in 2001, with Dr. D.K. Sharma as it’s first Professor and Head.Thereafter department had guidance of different learned professors.

Introduction :
Physiology is a fundamental branch of Medical science that focuses on understanding the normal functions of the human body. In medical education, physiology bridges basic science and clinical practice. It equips future healthcare professionals with the ability to interpret sign and symptoms, understand disease mechanism and make informed clinical decision. A sound knowledge of physiology is crucial for understanding pathophysiogy, pharmacology, diagnostics and patient management. In essence, it is not only the study of life processes but also the cornerstone for advancing medical research, therapeutic interventions and evidence-based healthcare.

Infrastructure & Facilities :
The Department is located in the second floor of the college building with following facilities:
1. Hematology lab
2. Clinical Physiology lab
3. Amphibian lab – CAL
4. Mammalian lab
5. PG research lab equipped with ECG, Digital PFT, Multipara monitor (Vital sign, NIBH, HR, SpO2, ECG, RR, Temperature), Advanced Mannequin for BLS, Bicycle Ergometer and EMG NCV machine.
6. Departmental library has more than 150 books and is well equipped for Seminar.
7. Air-conditioned Lecture theater equipped with Audio visual aids can accommodate 150 students.
6. Separate accommodation for all teaching & non teaching staff.

Departmental Activities:

Department of Physiology is actively involved in training the first professional MBBS students in conformity with Competency Based Medical Education recommended by National Medical Commission. Students are taught through various innovative & interactive teaching learning methods like Integrated learning, Case based learning, Self Directed learning , Early Clinical Exposure and Elective postings.

In Early Clinical Exposure Module, Students are sent to visit the Blood bank, Pain clinic, wards and OPDs to integrate the basic sciences with clinical practice, provide a real world context for learning and motivate students by showing the relevance of their studies to patient care.

Formative Assessments is done in a longitudinal manner through Seminar, Projects, assignments, Part Completion Tests etc to understand their level of learning and to provide immediate feedbacks and guidance.

Besides academic activities, departmental faculties are also involved in research activities and Papers are published in the Scientific Journals.

Other Facilities :
Under the guidance of Dr. Keshav Kashyap (Head of the Department), department of physiology is also actively involved in the activities of Medical Education Unit and Skill Lab of the institute.

1. Medical Undergraduates, Postgraduates and Nursing students are regularly trained on Basic Life Support and other skills, as per NMC Skill module.

2. The department is also engaged in various Faculty development Program of MEU like Basic Course in Medical Education, Curriculum Implementation Support Program etc. to enhance the teaching competencies of medical teachers aligned with current standards.

3. Postgraduate’s academic activities like workshops on Research Methodology, Good Clinical and Lab Practice are also organized from time to time, in collaboration with the student cell of the institute.

4. The department also conducts a Yoga program.
