About Department :
Introduction :
The Department of Anaesthesiology, Pain Medicine & Critical Care at Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences Bilaspur (CIMS) is a vital clinical and academic unit, offering comprehensive services in perioperative anaesthesia, critical care, and pain management.
The department was established in the year 2001, starting with two Operation Theatres it was the only referral centre in entire Bilaspur district.

Currently, the department has 10 Major and 13 Minor operation theatres across the wide range of surgical specialties, routinely handling high-risk and complex cases. It has 10-bedded Anaesthesia ICU (AICU) providing advanced intensive care through a closed ICU model.
Emergency anaesthesia services are available round-the-clock, ensuring prompt response for trauma and urgent surgical needs. The department also runs a dedicated Pain Clinic all six days a week.
Academically, the department offers an MD Anaesthesiology program 8 seats annually, imparting thorough academic and clinical skills in, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatric, Orthopedics, Trauma, ENT, Oncology, Dental, Maxillofacial, Laproscopic and ECT Facilities.

Skill development through hands-on workshops, simulation training, and certification courses in BLS and ACLS is an integral part of the curriculum.
With active engagement in clinical research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a commitment to quality care, the department ensures dedicated faculties towards quality scientific and ethical research.

VISION
1. Aims to provide comprehensive anaesthesia care to all needy patients undergoing surgery, making their peri-operative journey safe, comfortable and pain free.
2. To prepare and nurture resident doctors to make them efficient and competent anaesthesiologist.

Courses offered
1. Postgraduate – MD Anaesthesiology– 3 year course (Letter intent received for intake 8 students annually)
2. BLS/ACLS Certification Courses

Services offered
1. 24×7 anaesthesia to all elective and emergency operative cases in Major-10 and Minor -13 operation theatres.
2. Anaesthesia OPD (PAC) clinic all six days a week.
3. Pain management services and intervention all six days a week.
4. Palliative cancer care.
5. Monitored anaesthesia care for CT scan.
6. Resuscitation facility in hospital as and when required.
7. Intensive care for critical patients and postoperative care inclusive of ventilator support.
8. COVID – 19 Pandemic contribution – Anaesthetiologist posted as integral team members in COVID ICU & WARD, as well as Training programs.
